SketchUp is a 3D modelling software that is widely used by architects, engineers, and designers. SketchUp Pro has been the go-to version for many years, but a more complete tier has been added relatively recently – SketchUp Studio. In this blog post, we will discuss the benefits of upgrading to SketchUp Studio.
SketchUp Studio offers a wide range of enhanced features and tools that are not available in SketchUp Pro. For example, Studio includes the ability to generate reports, import and export data in various formats, and collaborate in real-time with other users. It also includes the Trimble Connect extension, which allows users to access cloud-based storage and collaborate with other users in real-time.
Studio also comes with V-Ray for photorealistic rendering, as well as the new Revit Importer.
If you’re already using both SketchUp Pro and Revit or V-Ray, SketchUp Studio might be the upgrade you’ve been looking for.
Revit Importer
Much like it sounds, the Revit importer brings Revit models into SketchUp, converting families and building elements to SketchUp’s native tags and components. It optimises geometry, creating a lightweight and well-organised SketchUp file that’s ready to use.
V-Ray
V-Ray is a popular rendering engine that is widely used by architects and designers. SketchUp Studio 2023 now includes V-Ray integration, which allows users to create photorealistic renderings of their 3D models. This feature includes a range of advanced tools, such as denoising, colour correction, and post-processing effects.
Live Components
Live Components is a new feature introduced in SketchUp Studio 2023 that allows users to create dynamic 3D models that can change shape and size in real-time. This feature is particularly useful for architectural designs that require complex geometry and intricate details. With Live Components, users can create models that respond to various parameters, such as time, weather conditions, and user input.
Enhanced Reporting
SketchUp Studio offers enhanced reporting features that make it easier for users to generate reports and analyse data. This feature allows users to create customised reports that include specific model attributes, such as volume, surface area, and material quantities. Users can also export these reports in various formats, including PDF, CSV, and Excel.
Scan Essentials
Scan Essentials lets you import, view, and interact with point cloud data in the SketchUp modelling environment. The imported point cloud can be used within SketchUp to model the scanned as-built condition, provide accurate visual context to your existing SketchUp model, and collect accurate measurement data.
