Thermal and Impact Analysis of a Nuclear Flask Design
By Thomas Goulding, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Assystem
11th Altair Technology Conference
May 21st at the British Motor Museum, Warwickshire, UK
Thomas will discuss the development of nuclear flasks used to transport waste material on public roads.
The presentation will cover drop impact simulations using RADIOSS, as well as transient thermal / structural assessments of a fully engulfing pool fire. Finally, Thomas will detail the multi-disciplinary optimisation project undertaken on the flask, using the tools within HyperWorks to avoid the need to revisit the CAD model for an efficient process that avoids traditional trial and error.
