This third major Flamingo release is based on completely new technology. Designed to provide the highest possible quality images with the minimal rendering technology expertise. Flamingo nXt is also designed to minimize the time and effort required to set up a model for rendering.

 

With nXt you don’t need to be a professional renderer to get realistic results quickly. You provide materials and lighting and press the Render button. nXt provides the simulation. Unlike many rendering products, there are very few settings to worry about or understand.

V-Ray for Rhino 1.5 is Here!!

 

V-Ray for Rhino 1.5 Has Landed

Chaos Group announced today the widely anticipated release of V-Ray for Rhino 1.5. The release builds on the proven success of the previous version whilst introducing further enhancements to provide even greater functionality, performance and ease of use.

Possibly the most eagerly anticipated feature is realtime rendering (RT). RT provides a live rendering interface allowing users to immediately preview changes. This is great if you are testing out different materials, lighting options, camera settings, views and such: simply make a change, check the live visual.

V-Ray’s realtime engine utilises the CPU but in the future may make use of the GPU as with some other versions of V-Ray. The RT renderer uses the same processes as the normal V-Ray core, so the results produced are the same.

 

There are many other great new features to V-Ray for Rhino 1.5 – including:

  • Dome lighting tool with easy to control HDR input,
  • RAM-saving V-Ray Proxy to reduce the overhead on high polygon count models & add interoperability with V-Ray for 3DS Max and other versions of V-Ray
  • Dispersion – a simple switch and variable to add realism to refracted light in translucent materials
  • New ambient occlusion settings to improve upon weaknesses in global illumination (GI)
  • New ‘Retrace Threshold’ settings which can be used to correct weaknesses in light caching and improve accuracy of GI, especially on interior renderings
  • New camera tools to improve photo-realism and potentially save post production in Photoshop

Uformia Releases Symvol For Rhino

Symvol for Rhino – Community is a volumetric modelling system plug-in.
The user can think of clay or metal when working with Symvol. It means a volume is a piece of malleable material, not a collection of paper sheets glued together, as an equivalent analogy to existing modelling systems. Whatever is done during modelling, the volume created is always a valid solid object, unlike in traditional solid modelling, where objects can have cracks and other surface issues.
 
Symvol is useful for:

Orca 3D New WIP Version!

Leveraging the Power of Rhino for the Naval Architect


This new version (1.2.2) contains a number of new features, feature improvements, and bug fixes. Some highlights include:

  • Hydrostatics and Stability: By default, the “Pre-float” check is run each time hydrostatics are calculated, in order to review the model for errors. This option can be disabled.
  • Hydrostatics and Stability: Real-time hydrostatics and Sectional Area Curve will now update when an entire surface is moved (when the move is complete).
  • Weight and Cost: If the user attempts to edit the weight/cost properties associated with a block instance, a message is provided that only the weight/cost properties associated with the block definition can be edited.
  • Hull Design: Improved performance of Orca section calculation when dragging many objects.
  • Licensing: Implemented a newer version of the Licensing libraries, allowing self-service activation through a user website for cases where Internet activation is not possible, because the computer where Orca3D is installed does not have Internet access.
  • Units Fixes – Fixed bug in unit conversion values for metric mass density units other than kg/m^3.
  • OrcaMove Fixes – Fixed OrcaMove ghosting and an incorrect real-time sectional area curve behavior, in which one move caused two sectional area curve updates.
  • PIAS Export Fixes – Modified PIAS section export to meet the requirement of positive transverse coordinate (regardless of whether port/stbd is modeled). Added logic to join station segments by filling in gaps with straight line segments.
  • Hydrostatics: Fixed a bug in the scriptable version of the OrcaHydrostatics command when using the “TransformModel” command option. Fixed a bug in which “undo-ing” a surface manipulation while real-time hydrostatics/sectional area curve were active did not cause a hydrostatics/sectional area curve update.
This WIP will expire on March 1st. Either the final version of Orca3D 1.2 will be released before then, or a new WIP will be released.

Becks Vier Commercial Borne of Rhino, Cinema4D, V-Ray Workflow

The recent TV commercial for Becks Vier’s new square necked bottle was produced using a combination of key 3D packages.

 

The ad was created by Zeitguised, with production company Blinkink for Mother. The 20 second ad features a completely self-designed environment, incorporating original models, textures and lighting. The Becks Vier bottle was modelled in Rhino; ZBrush was then used to further texture the bottle. Cinema4D was used for animation and V-Ray for rendering.

New Rhino to Alias Plug-in!

Rhino to Alias Plug-in will import 3dm files to Alias.

 

New features have been added including support for blocks and dimensions,  initial support for v5 features and a menu entry added under file -> import.
